Case Study

The Honduras Renaissance

The Context

The pardon of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez was controversial. Many conventional political analysts at the time it was announced – just days before the National Elections in Honduras – feared that it would sink the chances of National Party (PNH) candidate Tito Asfura.

Juan Orlando Hernandez Pardon

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez was extradited and hit with drug trafficking charges in the United States as part of a deal hatched by the LIBRE Party regime and the Biden administration. The Biden government used unsubstantiated testimony from the drug kingpins who JOH put behind bars as evidence to throw him in prison for life.

This was not just an example of the U.S. federal government being weaponized against its enemies. This was a crime perpetrated against the people of Latin America as they were subjected to a cruel communist regime, one that actual proven ties to drug cartels, that lorded over Honduras. Zion saw injustice and sprung into action.

A Tidal Wave of Enthusiasm

What instead happened was a tidal wave of enthusiasm cascaded throughout the Honduran countryside as patriots celebrated, holding convoos in celebration that their political prisoner had been released. PNH voters disenfranchised after their hero was unceremoniously extradited and thrown in prison by the repressive far-left regime were motivated to storm the polls.

The Result

The JOH pardon ended up being the final chess piece that would culminate in a narrow victory by Asfura. Because of the bold efforts of the Zion team, Honduras went from being doomed to a future of leftism to on the cusp of an economic renaissance and a new age of prosperity with backing from the Trump administration.

Strategic Narrative & Impact

Zion analyst Shane Trejo worked to build awareness of the JOH case, co-authoring a piece in iconic political operative Roger Stone's influential "Stone Cold Truth" magazine about the plight of Honduras.

Trejo and Stone laid out the case for the JOH pardon on Stone's radio show where Trejo noted that the pardon would 'without firing a single bomb or bullet or getting involved militarily.'

A Voice of Hope

"While my husband remained imprisoned and in constant danger, this team worked tirelessly. They published reports, raised awareness, secured interviews, and brought the truth to places it had never reached before, all through serious, responsible, and committed investigative work… Today, our family has hope again. We can say that we have reclaimed our lives, our dreams, and the promise that we will soon be together. We cannot end these words without expressing our deepest gratitude."
